Welcome
Kahurangi brings you high-quality quartz crystal skulls, Xultun Maya Tarot decks, books from Kahurangi Books, and other items of precious beauty.
People since always have adorned themselves with beauty—tattoos, clothing, jewellery. Why? We think it is not just a quest for external beauty but in its truest form it is an expression of spiritual wealth—the richness of our inner world and our connection with spirit. Our fascination with and attraction to beauty (in whatever form) is because it is spirit made visible. Spirit longs to be captured in physical form—woven, forged, printed, sung, spoken, braided, sewn, carved or painted—by human hands. Things of beauty remind us what we have forgotten—the spirit that lies inside all things.
And what does Kahurangi mean? New Zealand is the only country in the world where the constitution is based on a treaty of equal partnership (The Treaty of Waitangi or Te Tiriti O Waitangi) between its indigenous people and European settlers. Maori are the tangata whenua (People of the Land) of Aotearoa, the Land of the Long White Cloud. In Te reo Maori (the Maori language) Kahu means hawk and Rangi means sky. As well as “sky hawk” Kahurangi also means “precious thing.” We bring hand-picked items of beauty and meaning from around the world.
